El segundo día del taller de libros de artista fue un día intenso y estimulante en el que se buscó abrir diferentes caminos a través de las clínicas de orientación de proyecto que Alicia Candiani realizó con cada artista y de las demostraciones de nuevas técnicas como el plegado y la Xilografía al agua a cargo de nuestra Master printer Adriana Moracci y de la Fotolitografía watherless a cargo de Adriana Moracci y Valeria Zamparolo.

The second day of the workshop of artist's books was intense and stimulating which sought to open different paths through the guidance projects that Alicia Candiani carried out with each artist and the demostration of new techniques like Folding paper and Water Woodcut by our Master printer Adriana Moracci and Photolithography watherless dictated by Adriana Moracci and Valeria Zamparolo.

LIBROS "AL FRESCO" / "Al FRESCO" ARTIST BOOKS

Como primera actividad del año y en relación a las exposiciones de libros de artista MIMB I&II y “Alquimia y otras incompletudes” ofrecemos en eneroLibros "al fresco" , un proyecto único sobre libros de artista en pequeño formato.
Para aquellos artistas que deseen empezar el Año del Dragón con nuevos y frescos proyectos los invitamos a participar de estas jornadas únicas para reflexionar y realizar libros de artista en miniatura.
Los participantes tendrán una oportunidad ideal de trabajar en este programa y de estudiar mas de 140 libros (y sus consecuentes formas de presentación y plegado) que estarán exhibidos durante el verano en la Sala Poliglota de ´ace como parte de las exposiciónes internacionales de libros de artista en miniatura MIMB I & II. A continuación los participantes podrán producir un libro de artista en pequeño formato utilizando plegados en papeles chinos, japoneses y de algodón, haciéndolo en fotolitografia sin agua.
Los artistas participantes de este proyecto formarán parte de una primera selección con posibilidad de ser incluidos en la exposición internacional MIMB III, cuya
curadoría internacional está a cargo de Alicia Candiani. Los artistas seleccionados deberán luego desarrollar el proyecto y hacer una edición mínima de 6 para fines del año 2012. más

Related with the exhibitions of artists' books MIMB I & II and "Alchemy and other incompleteness", and as the first activity of the year, ‘ace offers in January this exciting and unique project on artist's books in small format.
This workshop is special for those artists who want to start the Year of the Dragon with fresh new projects. We invited all of them to attend these seminar and to reflect and make miniature artist's books.
Participants will have an ideal opportunity to work on this program and to study more than 140 books (and resulting formats and folding) that has been exhibited during the summer in the Poliglota Gallery at ' ace as part of international exhibitions of books MIMB I & II. Then, participants will produce an artist book in small format using Chinese, Japanese and cotton papers and employing a variety of printmaking techniques. More

First Exhibition of the traveling exhibition "Self Portrait" in Trois Riviéres, Canada

El 23 de Octubre se inauguró la primera de una serie de exposiciones itinerantes que llevará al Proyecto Autorretratos a los lugares en los que se produjo durante los últimos 5 años. La misma es alojada en la Maison de la Culture/Centro de Exposiciones Raymond-Lasnier de la ciudad de Trois Rivieres en Quebec, Canada.

El Proyecto Autorretratos es una idea original de Alicia Candiani y un emprendimiento internacional llevado a cabo por ‘ace. Este proyecto internacional de trabajo en colaboración ha funcionado como un work-in-progress desde 2006, incluyendo alrededor de 100 artistas, 6 países, 11 nacionalidades, 5 idiomas y 8 prestigiosas instituciones artísticas de diversas partes del mundo.

On October 23 will open the first venue of a travelling exhibition that will take the Self-portraits Project to the places that it was developed during the last five years. It will be displayed at the Maison de la Culture / Exhibition Centre Raymond-Lasnier of the city of Trois Rivieres in Quebec, Canada.

The Self-Portraits Project is a Alicia Candiani’s original idea and ´ace’s international endeavor. This collaborative international venture has been a work in progress from 2006, involving almost 100 artists, 6 countries, artist from 11 different nationalities who speak 5 languages and 8 major art institutions around the world.

La 8 ª Edición (La sesión de Kansas City) del Proyecto Autorretratos se inició el 28 de septiembre del 2011 organizada por el reconocido Instituto de Arte de Kansas City en los Estados Unidos (KCAI). Wanda Ewing es la tercer artista en residencia de mayo y está desarrollando en ´ACE un proyecto que investiga la lucha por el poder en la cultura Hip-Hop. Esta artista afro-americana cuestiona si es la industria del Hip-Hop misógina hacia las mujeres o si las mujeres involucradas en ella se ven, por el contrario, puestas en una situación de superioridad y poder. Leslie y Cristina continúan trabajando en sus proyectos y el progreso en sus obras es notable!

Wanda Ewing is the third artist in residence of May and her project attempts to explore the power struggle in Hip-Hop culture. This project adds to the conversation of is Hip-Hop industry misogynistic towards women or are the women involved in the industry actually empowered. Leslie & Cristina are working hard in their projects and the progress is remarkable!

Hoy comenzaron su residencia Cristina Molina y Leslie Mutchler. Ambas artistas viajaron desde diferentes ciudades de Estados Unidos para realizar una residencia de tres semanas en ´ACE. Cristina ya empezó a investigar con su visor y fotografías estereoscópicas y compartió con Patricia el uso de esta antigua herramienta. El proyecto que Leslie está desarrollando tiene que ver con la vida de los cartoneros y cómo éstos recolectan los materiales reciclables.

Today Cristina Molina & Leslie Mutchler began their residency . Both artists traveled from different cities of USA to make a residency of three weeks at ´ACE. Cristina just began to explore with her stereoscopic display and photographs and shared with Patricia the use of this ancient tool. The project that Leslie is developing is related with the life of the cartoneros and how they collect cardboard recyclables.

Maritza Dávila (Puerto Rico/EEUU) es la primer artista en residencia de ´ace en el 2011. Durante su residencia, Maritza realizó un libro de artistas en el que los esquemas de las relaciones se analizan visualmente. Esta serie de impresiones a gran escala está basado en el concepto de lo espiritual y lo profano con esquemas como parte de lo orgánico y las estructuras.

Maritza Davila (Puerto Rico / USA) is the first artist in residence at´ace in 2011. During her residency, Maritza made an artist book in which patterns of relationships are analyzed visually. This series of large prints is based on the concept of spiritual and profane with the schemes as part of the organic and structures.

Today was the last day of the Study Abroad Program of UTA students at ´ACE. The portfolio was presented and the students discuss and received the view of Alicia Candiani and Michelle Murillo. Recibimos la visita del profesor Aaron Terry del San Francisco Art Institute (California, Estados Unidos) junto a su grupo de estudiantes, quienes viajaron a Buenos Aires durante las primeras dos semanas de enero con el propósito de visitar el circuito artístico local, museos, galerías, talleres y conversar especialmente con artistas del Museo de la Memoria. Hoy visitaron nuestros talleres, conocieron a los estudiantes de UTA, nuestras instalaciones y en una charla especial les contamos y mostramos nuestros proyectos y residencias.

We received the visit of the Professor Aaron Terry from the San Francisco Art Institute (California, USA) with his group of students who traveled to Buenos Aires during the first two weeks of January in order to visit the local art circuit, museums, galleries , workshops and talk especially with artists from the Museum of Memory. Today they came to ´ACE workshops´, met the students from UTA, our facilities and then listen a special lecture where we showed them our projects and residencies.

Dentro del Programa de Estudios que los estudiantes de UTA se encuentran realizando en ´ACE, el fin de semana visitaron la Estancia La Cinacina, ubicada en San Antonio de Areco. Pasaron un típico día en la Pampa. Fueron recibidos con música, empanadas, salame, pan y bebidas. Después dieron un paseo a caballo y disfrutaron de un almuerzo donde degustaron diferentes tipos de carne, ensaladas, postre y café. Por la tarde, tuvo lugar un espectáculo de danza donde todos cantaron y bailaron y luego los gauchos realizaron destrezas, carrera de sortijas y carreras de sortijas.

Within the Study Abroad Program that the students from the UTA are taking at ´ACE., on the weekend they visit Estancia La Cinacina, located in San Antonio de Areco, outside the city in Buenos Aires province. They spent a tipical pampa´s day and were welcomed with music, "empanadas" (meat stuffed pastries), salami, country-made bread and drinks. Afterwards they took a guided horse back riding tour & carriage ride around the grounds. They enjoyed an Argentinean Barbeque that includes different kind of sausages and beef, salads, dessert and coffee. During lunch there was folk music and dance show where they participated singing and dancing. Afterwards, an exhibition of horse riders dexterities (ring races -carreras de sortijas- and "cuadreras") took place.

All of them are working under the theme "Reaction", using their individual responses to the immersion within a new cultural environment. Magdalena Suranyi nace en Argentina en 1985. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Londres. LA EDICION DE LESLEY YA COMENZO

Lesley Mitchell, la actual artista en residencia, está realizando un libro de artista que tiene como temática el Tango. Aunque el plan original era utilizar diversos procesos de agua fuerte, finalmente Lesley decidió utilizar la técnica de fotolitografía. Durante la última semana ha ido desarrollando los dibujos para el libro y aprendiendo a usar el Photoshop para importar texto. Hoy va a empezar a imprimir la edición con la asistencia de la Masterprinter Adriana Moracci.

Lesley Mitchell, current artist in residence, is making an artist's book on the subject of Tango. Though the original plan was to use various intaglio proccesses, in the end Lesley settled on photolithography. For the past week she has been developing the drawings for the book and learning to use photoshop in order to import text. Today, if all goes well, she'll start to pull the edition with assistance and guidance of Adriana Moracci, ´ACE Masterprinter.

On Monday November 8th was held a meeting between the Art Residency Programs of Argentina / Paraguay / Uruguay in Buenos Aires at the headquarters of the CCEBA San Telmo. Beyond the presentation of each program made during the day, the possibilities of working together was discussed, trying to build projects and ideas. CUARTO DIA / FOURTH DAY

Hoy empezamos a trabajar en el Taller de Grabado de la UAA (Universidad de Alaska at Anchorage), la mayoría de los artistas tienen las imágenes terminadas. Hal Gage trajo las impresiones ya listas. Empezamos la segunda etapa en dónde las impresiones digitales seran cubiertas con dos diferentes coating, según mi técnica y la de Garry, que es parecida pero al mismo tiempo diferente. Algunos artistas luego le adicionarán otras capas de papeles transparentes, o tejidos, o realizaran costuras sobre ellas.

We started today working in the Printmaking Workshop of the UAA (University of Alaska at Anchorage). Most artists have the images finished. Hal Gage brought the works already printed. We began the second stage where digital prints will be covered with two different coating, with my technique as well as Garry´s own, which are similar but at the same time different. Some artists will then add other layers of transparent paper or tissue, or make add some other stuff on them.

El tercer día del proyecto nos encuentra terminando las imagenes digitales que seran impresas esta noche por Hal. Mañana nos trasladamos de la Galería MTS al taller de grabado de la Universidad de Alaska, del cual Garry Kautlitz es profesor, dónde vamos a imprimir encima de ellas con diversas técnicas, según los proyectos de cada artista. Mientras tanto voy presentando a alguno de ellos:

The third day found ourselves finishing the digital images. Hal is going to print some of them tonight. Tomorrow morning we will move from the MTS Gallery to the University of Alaska Print Studio where Garry Kautlitz teaches. We are going to print on top of them with various techniques, according to each artist goals. Meanwhile I introduce some of the artist that are working in this session:

Cloud Medicine Crow (algo así como "Cuervo de la nube medicinal") es la traducción al inglés del nombre de este artista perteneciente a la tribu Hidatsa. Su autorretrato es una obra de fuerte contenido testimonial acerca del lugar en que la sociedad pone a los pueblos originarios. Esta tarde estuvimos trabajando en la incorporación a su propia imagen la de sus dos bisabuelos, de los que Cloud tiene la suerte de tener fotografías en sus vestimentas originales.

Cloud Medicine Crow is the English translation of this artist's name who belongs to the Hidatsa tribe. His self-portrait is a work of strong testimonial content about the place where society puts Native Americans. This afternoon we were working on incorporating to his own image those of his two great grandfathers, whose Cloud is fortunate to have photos in their original costumes.

Petra Lisiecki is an international professional photographer. She was born in Germany, spent her youth in South Africa and has lived the last years between London and Alaska. She is an extraordinary person and photographer who likes music and explores opera images as her main subject, themes that has been reflected both in her self-portrait.

Catorce artistas (entre los que se cuentan arquitectos, escultores, performes, fotógrafos, artistas gráficos, artistas textiles y pintores) integran esta 7ma Sesión.
On a beautiful sunny day, with around 55F (warm for these latitudes), the Self-Portraits Project begun at MTS Gallery in Anchorage, Alaska. Fourteen artists (including architects, sculptors, performers, photographers, printmakers , textil artists and painters) joined the 7th session.

No hace falta andar mucho para darse cuenta de la belleza de un territorio en el que la pureza del aire recorta las formas de la naturaleza como si estuvieran dibujadas y en el que el silencio y la quietud nos anuncian la Finis Terrae.

At its sixth session of the year, Fabiana realized portfolio review within "The Number 10 / The New Decade" program. Hoy comenzó su residencia Andrew Donohoe (Australia), un artista apasionado de los procesos del grabado sobre todo grabados realizados en linóleo. Su trabajo se relaciona con el entorno natural y las formas, texturas y la simetría en la naturaleza. Además, este año Andrwe recibió el Premio Silk Cut, uno de los 3 premios adquisición más importantes de Australia para grabados sobre linóleo. Bienvenido Andrew a ´ACE!

Andrew Donohoe (Australia) began his residency today. Andrew is passionate about the processes associated with printmaking, particularly relief and especially linocuts. Generally his work relates to the natural environment and the forms, textures and symmetry found in nature. He is a full time artist and is largely self taught. This year, Andrew was awarded one of 3 acquisitive prizes of the Silk Cut Award for Linocut prints. Welcome Andrew to ´ACE!

Bajo el nombre de "La cara terrestre: Argentina", la exposición de Christopher Newman (Australia) es una instalación realizada con fotolitografías impresas sobre negro. Para Christopher Buenos Aires refleja la urbanización caótica de Sidney y por consiguiente la enajenación humana de la naturaleza. Para la inauguración, Chris contó con la presencia de sus padres quienes viajaron especialmente para estar presentes en este evento.

"La cara terrestre: Argentina" is the name of the exhibiton composed by waterless litographies printed on black and installed in the Políglota Rooom by Christopher Newman. For Christopher Buenos Aires reflects Sydney’s growing urban sprawl, and therefore the alienation of humanity from nature. For the opening Chris had the presence of their parents who traveled specially to attend this event.

El sábado 31 de julio durante el día comenzaron los registros de Garvin Sierra para su proyecto "Autorretrato Circense". Estuvimos en dos espectáculos de circo pertenecientes al Buenos Aires Polo Circo "Ludus" y "Bangladim", fotografiando a todos los personajes antes de salir a escena y luego en sus roles correspondientes. Y a la noche nos fuimos al Club de Trapecistas de Marianita Sánchez, a registrar el espectáculo de los grandes éxitos del Circo Negro, un espectáculo genial! Queremos agradecer a todos los organizadores y protagonistas de los shows por su buena onda y predisposición!

On Saturday July 31st, during the day Garvin Sierra started the documentation for his project about the Circus and its characters. We´ve been in two circus shows within the Buenos Aires Polo Circus "Ludus" and "Bangladim", shooting all the characters before going on stage and then in their respective roles. And at night we went to the Club of Trapeze, of Marianita Sanchez, to document the characters of the Black Circus show, a great show! We want to thank all the organizers and actors of all the shows for being so kind and for the good predisposition!

Comenzó la MONOTHON 2010 en ´ACE. Las vacaciones de invierno empezaron con todo y artistas de Argentina, Australia y Estados Unidos se unieron en estos intensos días de maratón de monotipos. Las obras podrán verse expuestas en el ´ACE nite que se realizará en agosto en nuestro centro, junto a la obra de los artistas que participaron de la edición 2009 de la MONOTHON.

MONOTHON 2010 began at ´ACE. The winter holidays started with lot of energy and artists from Argentina, Australia and the United States joined in this busy days of monotype marathon. The works will be shown in the ´ACE nite to be held in August at our center, together with the work of the artists who participated in the 2009 edition of the MONOTHON.
